Burundi authorities arrest former governor
President fired Murengerantwari on October 8 without explanation
Burundian authorities have announced they have arrested and charged the former governor of the central bank, Dieudonné Murengerantwari.
In an October 10 press release, the prosecutor-general’s office confirmed Murengerantwari’s arrest. It said he was arrested alongside a businessperson, Sylvestre Niyonsaba, over the previous weekend.
The prosecutor’s office said the two men were being charged with “undermining the proper functioning of the national economy, passive corruption, money laundering
