People: Former PNG central bank governor dies
Bank of Canada appoints non-executive deputy governor; Patra’s term at RBI extended
Papua New Guinea: Wilson Kamit, the sixth governor of the Bank of Papua New Guinea, died on January 10.
Kamit was central bank governor from 1999 to 2009, overseeing the introduction of a new central bank law in 2000. As well as the law change, which boosted the central bank’s independence, he was closely involved in the establishment of major financial sector reforms the same year.
He was a career central banker, ultimately spending 37 years at the Bank of Papua New Guinea. He served in roles
