RBA deputy governor resigns
Guy Debelle leaves to join green energy company less than a year into second term
The deputy governor of the Australian central bank, Guy Debelle, resigned unexpectedly on March 10, to join a renewable energy company.
Debelle became the Reserve Bank of Australia’s second most senior official in 2016 and began a second five-year term only last September.
Many figures in Australian economics and politics believed Debelle was the most likely candidate to succeed Philip Lowe as the RBA’s governor. Lowe’s current term ends in September 2023.
