Adel Al-Sharkas appointed Central Bank of Jordan governor

Deputy governor promoted into top job as economy experiences “nascent” recovery

Adel Al-Sharkas was appointed as the new governor of the Central Bank of Jordan today (January 5), replacing Ziad Fariz, who steps down after 10 years in office.

The prime minister’s office revealed the decision in a statement posted to social media. Al-Sharkas is currently deputy governor and head of research at the central bank, a post he has held since January 2012.

Al-Sharkas was previously a professor of finance at Alfred University in the US, and also worked as an investment consultant
