Iranian court sentences former governor to 10 years in prison
Valiollah Seif convicted of currency offences, but reportedly remains free pending appeal
An Iranian court has sentenced former central bank governor Valiollah Seif to 10 years in prison for undertaking the illegal distribution of foreign currency.
The court also convicted former deputy governor Ahmad Araqchi, as well as eight other defendants. Araqchi received an eight-year sentence.
Al Jazeera reports that a judiciary spokesperson announced the verdicts to state television on October 16. Some media report Seif is free pending appeal.
