People: Modi’s government appoints new RBI deputy governor
Michael Patra takes position left by Viral Acharya in June 2019; EBA names new executive director
India: The Indian government appointed Michael Patra as one of the four deputy governors of the Reserve Bank of India for a three-year term on January 14.
Patra replaces Viral Acharya, who resigned from the central bank in June 2019, six months before the end of his term. Acharya’s resignation followed a similar departure by former governor Urjit Patel in December 2018, following months of disputes with prime minister Narendra Modi.
