Kazakhstan’s senate appoints new central bank governor
Change comes after president demands government’s resignation due to poor economic performance
Kazakhstan’s senate today (February 25) unanimously approved the appointment of a new governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK), according to local news sources.
Deputy prime minister Yerbolat Dosayev replaces Daniyar Akishev, who served as governor since November 2015.
Dosayev was Kazakhstan’s economy minister between 2013 and 2016, before moving to head up a government organisation tasked with developing the non-oil and gas sectors.
