Sierra Leone’s president fires governor and appoints successor

Recently-elected president appoints academic as economy’s problems worsen

Sierra Leone’s recently-elected president has dismissed the governor of the country’s central bank and appointed an academic as successor. 

Kelfala Kallon was appointed to be the new governor of the Central Bank of Sierra Leone on August 15, a statement from the office of Sierra Leone’s president said.

Kallon, previously an academic economist at the University of Northern Colorado, is the central bank’s third governor to be appointed in the last 17 months.
