Finland: The Bank of Finland announced on May 18 that Olli Rehn will be its next governor, effective from July 12, after he was confirmed by the country’s president.

Rehn was the only candidate from a shortlist of 10 sent forward by Finland’s parliament to president Sauli Niinistö on April 27. He will serve a seven-year term, and will have a seat as of right on the European Central Bank’s (ECB) governing council.

His departure leaves only two people sitting on the central bank’s board, which
