People: Fijian deputy takes over in interim as Whiteside departs; FCA chairman to step down

Fiji: The deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji has been appointed interim governor for a period of three months, the government has announced.

Ariff Ali took over from Barry Whiteside, whose five-year term ended in May. Whiteside had served as governor since 2011.

Ali, a career central banker, joined the Reserve Bank of Fiji in 1995 as an economist. He has since served in a number of capacities, most recently being appointed deputy governor in 2014.
