Bundesbank reckons with predecessor’s past

German central bank publishes report showing Reichsbank was integral to the Nazi era

The Deutsche Bundesbank will soon publish a multi-volume publication about the Reichsbank and its role during the Nazi period. 

“The Bundesbank itself has looked to reflect critically on the past,” Bundesbank president Joachim Nagel said at a press conference on March 15.

“What has been lacking so far, though, is a big picture of German central bank policy before, during and after World War II,” Nagel said. “That’s a picture we now have.”
