Bolivian government prosecutes ex-governor over IMF loan

Justice ministry charges senior figures in last administration as observers condemn “political attack”

Bolivia’s Justice Ministry announced it is pursuing criminal charges against former central bank governor Guillermo Aponte Reyes Ortíz, over an International Monetary Fund loan.

The charges appear part of a broader legal offensive by president Luis Arce’s left-wing government against its predecessor. The justice ministry has pressed charges over the IMF loan against Aponte, former president Jeanine Áñez, and her finance minister José Luis Parada Rivero.
