‘Interventions’ are needed for gender balance, says BoE COO

Offering women opportunities is not enough, says Joanna Place

The Bank of England’s chief operating officer has said “interventions” are needed in order to support gender balance in financial institutions.

Joanna Place, one of the few women to occupy a senior role at the BoE, said it was not enough to ensure opportunities were available for women, leaders must also make sure they “can and will” be taken.
