Ukrainian deputy who led clean-up of banking sector retires after 17 months

Ukraine: The first deputy governor of the National Bank of Ukraine has stepped down after 17 months in the role, to be replaced by one of the bank's deputy governors.

Oleksandr Pysaruk, who as first deputy governor has had lead responsibility for major reforms of Ukraine's banking supervision system, was appointed in July 2014.

Ukrainian governor Valeria Gontareva praised Pysaruk as "a true example of commitment and public service", saying he had taken "unpopular but extremely necessary" action
