Ex-governor calls for tighter cap on government borrowing from Malawi central bank
Former RBM governor campaigns for greater operational independence
A former governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) has stressed the importance of minimising the amount of money the government borrows from the institution.
Speaking in Lilongwe on November 23, a week before the bank celebrated its "50th birthday", Ellias Ngalande praised the progress made by the bank over the past half-century and called on authorities to "entrench" central bank independence.
Despite possessing legal independence, the central bank has not quite attained operational
