Fed’s Barr tells regulators to ‘finish the job’ on Basel III

Not complying with global standards makes US banks less competitive, vice-chair for supervision says

The US Federal Reserve’s vice-chair for supervision has urged regulators to comply with international standards and implement reforms on capital rules.

Speaking at Georgetown University in Washington yesterday (February 20), Michael Barr said he felt the pushback on financial regulation over the past few years as the Fed sought to implement the Basel III endgame proposal.

In one of his last speeches as vice-chair, Barr emphasised that regulation and supervision must ensure banks do not take
