Eurozone moving towards ‘single market for collateral’, say central bankers
Single market for collateral could help support capital markets union
Eurozone central banks are working towards a harmonised market for collateral in Europe, with the forthcoming launch of the Target-2 Securities (T2S) system a major milestone, central bankers said today.
Speaking at Euroclear's Collateral Conference in Brussels, Alexandre Gautier, a director at the Banque de France, said: "We are trying to develop and support a single market for collateral."
Gautier admitted it was not an easy task, but said: "We definitely think we could reduce fragmentation"
