Zimbabwe governor says return of local currency is not on the cards
The governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has dismissed rumours that the central bank is contemplating a return to the national currency that was abandoned in 2009 in an attempt to bring persistent hyperinflation under control.
In a statement published on the RBZ website yesterday, governor Gideon Gono said there were "no plans whatsoever" for the reintroduction of the Zimbabwe dollar, urging banks and investors to "stop panicking" and "get on with their boardroom strategies".
He said
