RBI can remove barriers to micro-credit – Acharya
Central bank looking to solve information problems in a “fundamental way”, says deputy
Staff at the Reserve Bank of India “firmly believe” they have the opportunity to “rethink and reshape” the flow of credit to micro-enterprises, deputy governor Viral Acharya said in a recent speech.
“We are excited about how we can solve in a fundamental way the information problem affecting access to credit for micro-entrepreneurs,” Acharya said, as he detailed plans for a credit register in India. The RBI first unveiled the plans in June 2018.
