IMF unveils new data strategy

Fund sets out first ever “overarching strategy” on data

The International Monetary Fund has unveiled its first ever “overarching strategy” on data, looking to upgrade the way it gathers, processes and shares economic data and statistics.

In a policy document published on March 20, the fund says it will focus its efforts in six areas: identifying data needs; building an “integrated network” of data-sharing countries; using big data and other innovations; achieving “seamless” data-sharing within the fund; promoting comparable data; and addressing
