BIS payment stats to embrace non-banks and faster payments

New methodology acknowledges the role fintech has played in reshaping payments landscape

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is changing the format of its payment statistics to include data from online and contactless transactions.

In a report today (August 30), the Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures outlines its new methodology, which will come into force next year.

“In the previous decade, the role of non-banks and technological innovation in retail payments substantially changed the types of payment solutions on offer and the demand for cashless payments
