Boston Fed research finds causal link between levies and price rises for consumers

Small and medium-sized enterprises in the US have said they expect to pass on the additional costs from tariffs to consumers, according to research from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. The study, published on April 10, draws on findings from a survey of businesses conducted in December and January, when tariffs were generally expected to be lower than has so far proved to be the case.

The businesses surveyed said they expected it to take around two years for the costs to be passed on fully
