The economy of the US accounts for about 15% of the global GDP, but its currency, the US dollar, is much more important. The dollar is involved in roughly every second foreign exchange transaction: about 60% of global central bank reserves are held in US dollars, and around 50% of all international trade is invoiced in US dollars.
