Ingves: Riksbank ‘will soon take a stance’ on e-krona
Executive board will examine whether e-krona could be gateway to central bank money
The board of Sveriges Riksbank will soon “take a stance” on the development of an e-krona cryptocurrency in 2018, the governor of the Swedish central bank said today (December 8).
Stefan Ingves examined whether a central bank digital currency could be a solution to provide the general public with continued access to central bank money after the nation has stopped using cash.
From an international perspective, Sweden is unique in that since 2008, the demand for cash has declined by 40%.
