Growth in banknote circulation drops in Namibia after ATM mandate

The growth rate of Namibian dollars in circulation slowed during 2014, after the central bank mandated that banks re-calibrate their ATMs to "dispense a fairly balanced distribution of all denominations in the market", according to the central bank's latest annual report.

One of the effects of this new policy was that 200 Namibian dollar banknote issuance grew only 28.2% in 2014 – the highest increase in all banknotes, but significantly lower than the growth of 83% recorded in 2013.
