Central Banking Summer Meetings: Policy-makers need to be “nimble footed”, governor says

Giving clear policy guidance during a tightening cycle is “inherently fraught with risks”, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das said today (June 13).

Das told Central Banking’s Summer Meetings the RBI has chosen not to give explicit guidance during its current process of tightening monetary policy. For example, it has avoided signalling the exact terminal point it expects interest rates to reach.

The governor re-emphasised his message from last week’s policy meeting that the
