Senior ECB regulator calls for progress on deposit insurance

Unified deposit insurance plays “key role” in “stable cross-border banking across the euro area”, Julie Dickson says

A senior member of the European Central Bank's (ECB) supervisory board called for European political leaders to make more progress in creating a unified deposit insurance scheme.

"A strong, single deposit guarantee scheme is an important basis for stable cross-border banking across the euro area," Julie Dickson told an audience in Frankfurt on November 28. In order to "finalise banking union", Dickson said, "policymakers need to agree on such a scheme".
