Banks must open rural branches before urban, governor says
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is looking to push banks to support rural financial inclusion before they open more lucrative urban branches, governor Chiranjibi Nepal said on July 15.
Around two-thirds of Nepalese people live in rural areas with less access to financial services, Nepal said at the national launch ceremony for the country's financial inclusion strategy. As part of its five-year financial sector development plan, NRB expects banks to open branches in rural areas before they move to urban
