Bank of Canada may ‘expand’ payments oversight

Central bank working with department of finance on new framework

The Bank of Canada could be charged with the oversight of "prominent" payment systems in the country, according to one of its deputy governors, Lawrence Schembri.

Schembri told the Canadian Payments Association that the central bank was working with the department of finance to "develop a new comprehensive framework for the oversight of payment systems".
