Fiji ponders remittances' effects

The governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Savenaca Narube, suggested that the central bank would like to see remittances channelled towards investment projects and other "productive purposes".

Speaking at the launch of the MoneyGram worldwide money transfer service in the Fijian capital of Suva, Narube said the central bank was "in the process of learning more about remittances" and wanted to learn more about what the sources of remittances were, how the funds were being spent and whether
