The Bank of Japan (BoJ) has published a review of retail payments innovation in other countries, seeking to draw lessons for improving the speed and efficiency of Japan's own payment systems.

The central bank's retail payment systems group put together the review of major payment systems, noting that very few countries have introduced real-time payments to date.
