Bundesbank paper says EU convergence is a myth
A Deutsche Bundesbank discussion paper, published today, finds the expansion of the European Union (EU) has done little to bring the incomes of central and eastern European countries (CEEC) closer to their western equivalents.
The paper, The Evolution of Economic Convergence in the European Union (EU), by Mihály Tamás Borsi and Norbert Metiu, investigates the path of real incomes per capita between the 27 current member states of the EU between 1970 and 2010.
