Netherlands Bank working paper studies media impact on debit card use

A working paper released by the Netherlands Bank on March 7 asks whether newspaper articles on card fraud affect debit card usage.

The author, Anneke Kosse, investigates the impact of newspaper articles about skimming fraud on debit card usage in the Netherlands, using daily transaction data and daily newspaper announcements from January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2008.
