Bonnici says Malta's economy weathering European storm

Maltese economy had good year in 2013, annual report shows

Introducing the Central Bank of Malta's Annual Report 2013, governor Josef Bonnici said the economy – and the central bank – had continued to perform well in the face of a "fragile" eurozone environment.

The central bank, he said, had outperformed the eurozone average across a range of indicators. These included growth, which reached 2.4% in 2013, and a comparatively low unemployment of 6.5%. The central bank registered a profit over the year of €66.7 million ($92 million), above the 10-year
