Bank of Japan Review – Measuring potential growth in Japan

There is large degree of uncertainty associated with estimating potential growth, and policymakers should make sure they were aware of this, said a Bank of Japan Review published in February.

The review, which detailed four methods used to forecast potential growth: filtering; judging supply capacity through an estimated production function; using the Phillips curve to forecast output by maximising the fit of the resultant output gap with inflation; and the dynamic stochastic general equilibrium
