Britons lower inflation expectations

The British public significantly lowered its inflation expectations, the latest Inflation Attitudes Survey from the Bank of England reveals.

When asked to give the current rate of inflation, those surveyed gave a median answer of 4.9%, compared to 5.4% in August 2008. This was the largest quarterly fall since the survey began in November 1999.

Respondents also said the median rate of inflation over the coming year would be 2.8%, compared with 4.4% in August, which was also the largest quarterly
