MAS appoints machine-learning specialist as chief data officer

Singapore is looking to position itself as a hub for fintech

Singapore: David Roi Hardoon, whose PhD thesis covered machine learning, is to head the Monetary Authority of Singapore's (MAS) new data analytics group when it launches in May.

Hardoon takes the role of chief data officer, joining the MAS from data analytics firm Azendian Solutions, which he co-founded.

The new group will be responsible for the MAS's overall data management, as well as supporting other teams working on data analysis tasks, and performing its own analysis on supervisory data
