Former Belgian central bank governor also had significant political career
Luc Coene, a former governor of the National Bank of Belgium, died on January 5 at the age of 69.
Coene joined Belgium's central bank in 1973 after studying economics at Ghent University and then the College of Europe. He worked first for the research department and then served in the part of the bank dealing with international relations.
He was seconded to other institutions a number of times, the central bank said in a statement. Coene was a visiting scholar at the International Monetary Fund
