Australasia has avoided stagnation trend – RBNZ’s Bascand

Australia and New Zealand have seen higher savings and more investment

Households in Australia and New Zealand appear to behave differently to those in other advanced economies, which helps explain why the countries have avoided "secular stagnation", Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) deputy governor Geoff Bascand said on November 22.

While growth remains "disappointingly weak" in many advanced economies and monetary policy is running into diminishing returns, growth in the two Australasian nations has been "steady", the deputy governor said.
