Nepal Rastra Bank broadens electronic payments oversight
Banks and financial institutions will have to re-register with the bank under new licensing law
Payment service providers in Nepal will have to obtain new licences from the central bank if they wish to provide electronic payment services, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced.
The introduction of the Licensing Policy for Payment Service Providers and System Operators on July 27 has enabled the central bank to officially "monitor, supervise and regulate" the activities of payment service providers across the country, a spokesperson tells Centralbanking.com.
