Senate blocks proposal to conduct ‘full audit’ of the Fed

‘Audit the Fed’ bill fails to secure support needed to proceed to Senate floor

A move to subject the Federal Reserve to a "full audit" was blocked by the US Senate on January 12 – checking the progress of proposals that have met with public opposition from many Fed officials.

The senators voted on whether to 'invoke cloture' on the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2015; an effort to end the initial round of debate and send the bill to 'the Senate floor' for consideration.

It fell short of the 60% majority needed, with 53 of the 100 senators voting in favour. Only two
