Azzam Shawwa: Set to take over as governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority on November 20

Azzam Shawwa will take over as governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA) on November 20, as current governor Jihad Al-Wazir steps down.

Shawwa was appointed by Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas for a four-year term to replace Al-Wazir, who is about to complete his second and final term, having originally been appointed in January 2008.

Shawwa joins the central bank from a background that is a mixture of banking and politics. He is currently general manager of Palestine Commercial Bank
