IMF hosts Middle East forum on Basel III compliance

Ten countries work together to ensure adequacy of local lenders' capital and liquidity

Central bankers from North Africa, the Middle East and Afghanistan met in Lebanon last week to exchange views and promote cross-border collaboration on banking supervision as part of an IMF-led effort to coordinate the implementation of Basel III in the region.

The workshop was organised by the IMF's Middle East Regional Technical Assistance Center, set up in 2004 to provide targeted capacity building aimed at restoring macroeconomic stability and developing "basic institutions for policy-making
