Poland's political establishment was thrown into crisis this week following the publication of a secretly recorded conversation between central bank governor Marek Belka and the country's interior minister – but the scandal that yesterday threatened to bring down the government now appears to be receding.

Prime minister Donald Tusk suggested he could call snap elections yesterday after the state prosecutor sent Poland's security services to raid the offices of Wprost, a Warsaw-based current
