Bank Indonesia governor nominee proves divisive choice
The Indonesian government today revealed finance minister Agus Martowardojo as its preferred candidate to replace Darmin Nasution as governor of Bank Indonesia.
A statement by the government says Agus was chosen on the basis of his knowledge of both the banking sector and the real economy. Agus' experience, however, is almost exclusively within banking. He joined Bank of America in 1984 after studying economics at the University of Indonesia, and subsequently rose through the ranks at Bank Niaga
