Bank of Canada names new deputy governor

The Bank of Canada has named Lawrence Schembri as deputy governor, effective from February 25. Schembri's promotion is the result of an open-search process to fill the vacancy created by the departure of Jean Boivin.

As deputy governor, Schembri will join the bank's governing council, the body responsible for decisions with respect to monetary policy and financial system stability as well as for setting the central bank's 'strategic direction'.
