Malawi president axes central bank governor

Malawi's new president, Joyce Banda, on April 24 announced Charles Chuka, chief executive of Malawi Telecommunications, was to take over as the governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi.

Chuka replaced previous governor Perks Ligoya with immediate effect. No announcement was made as to Ligoya's next role.

A spokesperson for the central bank said the news of Chuka's appointment was delivered by the state news service, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation. The governor was yet to arrive at the head
