Tombini named new governor of Brazilian central bank

Alexandre Tombini, the deputy governor for financial system regulation and organisation at the Central Bank of Brazil, is set to replace Henrique Meirelles, the central bank's current governor, when he steps down at the end of the year.

A spokesperson at the central bank on Thursday said Tombini had been nominated by President-elect Dilma Rousseff to head the central bank. However, his appointment is conditional on confirmation from Brazil's Congress, they added.
