Summers quits Obama’s economic team

Larry Summers will step down as adviser to President Barack Obama as part of plans to restore confidence in the government's economic policies ahead of elections later this year.

The White House on Tuesday said Summers, the director of the National Economic Council and assistant to the President for economic policy, would leave his post in Washington and return to his post as professor at Harvard University at the end of 2010.
