Bank to answer to former EBRD economist

Andrew Tyrie, a former senior economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is the new head of the Treasury Committee, an influential group of lawmakers charged with quizzing the Bank of England on its performance.

Tyrie sat on the committee during the previous parliament, dissolved in April, and in 2009 scooped the Spectator magazine's backbencher of the year award for his work on cross-examining senior bankers. Between 2003 and 2005 he was the shadow financial secretary
